Hess Cannons – lithographed, circa 1920s – 1934 Standard cannon: L 5” (12.7 cm), W 2.6” (6.7 cm), H 1.6” (4.1 cm) Earthworks cannon: L 5.25” (13.3 cm), W 3” (7.6 cm), H 3” (7.6 cm) highest elevation, w/o flag With the advent of lithography directly on tinplate, Hess designed this cannon in two basic models; a cannon without earthworks and a cannon with earthworks. The cannon with earthworks had adjustable elevation in three positions and was also supplied with a flag. An assortment of colors decorated these cannons in body and in some earthworks. Most were marked with the “JLH” logo, but it is not unusual to find a cannon without logo branding. Flags for the cannons with earthworks were the first things to be lost in playwear. |
