Hess early 575 series unmarked cars, circa early 1900s Hess did not always mark their toys. Here are some examples of early 575 marked and unmarked toys (M H – Matthias Hess). Hess sold through distributors as well as competing manufacturers. I am speculating that some manufacturers requested no identifying marks on their order. Curiously, the other difference between these passenger cars is that one example uses gold in place of white around windows and other areas.
